Once in a Blue Moon

2010 is starting out as a year to “pay attention”. What do I mean by this? Well as I stated in my other post today, today is a palindrome, however New Year’s Eve was a Blue Moon. A blue moon is when there are two full moons in one month. Technically the blue moon was on December 31st, but since it carried over to January 1st, I claim it for the beginning of the New Year.

This is another example of the Lord getting my attention. On December 13th I was at our church Christmas Dinner and someone at our table mentioned Smurf’s. I asked if this person knew when a Smurf was born and he said no. I proceeded to explain that Smurf’s are born “Once in a Blue Moon”. The discussion then turned to what a Blue Moon is and we all impressed ourselves with our vast knowledge of useless information.

Little did I know that just a few days later on the 31st, there would be a Blue Moon. I must admit it’s been a while since I’ve spoken to the Smurf’s, I didn’t even know they were expecting. Hey wait a minute! We had the discussion on the 13th and it happened on the 31st. Another palindrome, 13-31, whoa, this is way too weird.

So what does this mean? I have absolutely no idea! All I do know is two days in a row God has pointed out two unusual occurrences. Both happen rarely. Each is an anomaly and yet both happened back-to-back. This is pretty exciting stuff for a crazy geek like me. I can hardly wait to see what happens next, and it is only day two a what’s shaping up to be a very interesting year.

A Palindrome!
01-02-2010

Help, I’m stuck in a Palindrome, am I coming or going? What an interesting way to start the New Year, January 2, 2010. If the date is written as 01-02-2010, it reads the same forward or backwards. Hmm, but for me that wasn’t the most interesting part of the day.

I ran out to do an errand and as I was coming home and approaching my street I noticed that my odometer was almost a palindrome. To be honest I didn’t remember the word palindrome but I knew there was a word. By the time I got into my garage the odometer read 49,994.0. I was excited because I get excited over silly stuff like this. I came into the house and told my hubby bubby “hey, my odometer reads 4-9-9-9-4, what’s that called when it reads the same way forward and backwards?” He being a smart guy said “a palindrome.” And I was, as always, impressed by his smarts. Then he proceeded to tell me about an article in the paper explaining that today is a palindrome.

I had not yet read the paper so I had not seen the article. I knew at that moment that I needed to take a picture of my odometer. When something like this happens I know that God is trying to tell me something. I have no idea what, but I know He is telling me to pay attention. I’m not one to keep tabs on my odometer so the fact that I even noticed is unusual. (Although in full disclosure I did notice when it turned 44,444.4 but that’s a story for another blog.)

The point is God got my attention and then confirmed it by the article in the paper. I don’t know what it means thus far but I’m searching. Hopefully He’ll quickly lead me to the information I’m supposed to glean from this, but maybe He won’t. If that is the case, I will enjoy the journey, which is often more interesting than the destination.
